- Project descriptionThe Wildlife Conservation Society PNG aims to develop a REDD demonstration activity concept based in New Ireland and Manus Provinces. This concept will assess the feasibility of replicating small, village–based activities and bundling the resultant emission reductions into economically and administratively viable REDD units. This approach would enable community participation and ensure the potential benefits of REDD are shared widely among forest–dependent communities. The demonstration activity has been launched to operate at two levels: technical activities at the sub-national level, and the organisation of social groups at the community level. Demonstration of the Village-REDD+ concept will allow landowners to undertake small-scale low-impact activities over their customary land.
