- Project descriptionThe Sulbar Habitat project is based on principles of sustainable forest management, with the consent of communities, businesses and all levels of governments. People are employed to establish forest plantations on degraded landscapes next to areas of virgin forest. Much of the revenue from the sale of carbon credits will re-invested in helping establish more forest plantations to protect other virgin forest areas. In total, the project plans to stop deforestation of up to 832,000 ha of virgin rainforest, and develop up to 174,000 ha of plantations. It will also help to generate up to 100 Mw of biomass electricity, using wood fibre from purpose-grown plantations.
