• Project description
  The purpose of the proposed activity is to reforest 1,000 ha of degraded savanna land with a mix of forestry and fruit tree species over the course of four years. The proposed activity delivers sustainable development in several senses: 1. Fosters the creation of three local community forestry associations in order to secure legal rights to use of the land; 2. Will employ community members to plant and tend the seedlings during the first four years and protect the plantation after the first four years; 3. Provides longer-term, sustainable income to the community via the production of fruit, wood, and carbon credits; Stimulates technology transfer via building local capacity to propagate tree seedlings, to establish and maintain tree plantations, and to manage a local enterprise. 5. Stimulate outside investment into Madagascar (carbon revenues).
