Project description
This project sequesters carbon by reforesting lands previously converted to agricultural and livestock uses in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve of Queretaro and its area of influence. The project aims to make carbon benefits accessible to people living in remote areas in conditions of extreme poverty, involving small farmers with reforestations as small as 0.5 hectare in size. This carbon-sequestration project is a component of a broader strategy of the Sierra Gorda Alliance for Conservation, which includes other sustainable forestry projects, as well as environmental education, community improvement, productive diversification and n other programs.
