- Project descriptionThe Jari/Amapá REDD + Project are a partnership between Biofílica, Jari Florestal, Jari Celulose and the Fundação Jari, both belonging to the Grupo Jari. It is located in the Jari Valley, in the municipalities of Laranjal do Jari and Vitória do Jari, in the State of Amapá, a region that plays a very important role as home to more than two thousand rural families and as an ecological corridor linking several Conservation Units . With a protected area of 65,980 hectares of forest, the project harbours a very rich biodiversity, with species of extreme ecological and social importance, besides the important rivers that pass through the region. Despite the social and environmental importance of the Jari Valley, this region is constantly threatened by agriculture and livestock activities, human settlements and major infrastructure works that cause deforestation and degradation in the region. The Jari Amapá Project promotes forest conservation and reduction of potential greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions based on a model of local economic development that values the "standing forest" through a mosaic of activities to protect, monitor, supporting research in area, and including local communities in the actions.
